Saturday saw the team packing the trailer in the Crags as the rain bucketed down for the first time in months. We were all quietly praying that this weather would not follow us on our trip to Onrus on the Cape south coast where we were due to start the 500km African Expedition Adventure Race two days later.
Team Merrell Adventure Addicts crossed the finish line at Expedition Africa in first place, almost three hours ahead of Team Cyanosis, after 61 hours of racing. This race report has been written by the team, with reports by Graham ‘Tweet’ Bird, Tatum ‘Hobbit’ Prins, Hanno ‘Smelly’ Smit and Donovan ‘Tiny’ Sims.
Last week, Team Cyanosis raced to a second place finish at Expedition Africa, the continent’s premier 500km adventure race. The team raced well over a very fast course to finish in 2 days, 15 hours and 38 minutes, finishing about 2.5 hours behind Team Merrell, also from South Africa and 3 hours ahead of Team Accelerate from the UK.

The MERRELL Adventure Addicts cemented their position as South Africa’s blue-chip AR team with a near-flawless race at this week’s 500km Expedition Africa, presented by Kinetic. After more than 60 hours of non-stop racing, they claimed top of the podium ahead of local rivals Cyanosis and a gutsy Team Accelerate from the UK.
