AR Club evening – Tues, 26 Aug 2014

The theme of this AR Club evening is on participating in orienteering events overseas and looking at these multi-day events. How they work, what the events are like, the community, costs, map differences and technicality.

Brian Gardner – and Nicholas Mulder – recently competed in the Mountain Bike Orienteering World Cup event in Sweden. MTB O is a fairy new – but growing and highly competitive – orienteering discipline. He clocked 550km on his bike!

After the MTB O Brian hit the five day O-Ringen (five days of O events the World’s biggest multi-day O event – 15,000 participants!) to log a total of eight orienteering events in eight days.

Garry Morrison recently participated in the ‘5-days of Italy’ events, which were held during the World Orienteering Champs. Garry, a former Team Linden Cycles member, is president of our SA Orienteering Federation so he’s in the loop with global orienteering happenings.

Personally, I’ve only been abroad for 24hr rogaining events. But I’ve definitely got O-Ringen and the Scottish 5-days on my orienteering-event to-do list. And maybe even a MTB O 😉

Brian will also give you a brief on how the upcoming local MTB O events work – everything you need to know.
