Note from the organisers: After a remarkable 4-years of competition and discovery, it is with great regret that we announce the Challenge has decided to hang up its GPS.
Since 2007, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority has entrusted us with organising this spectacular and fascinating event but it has decided not to pursue the adventure further. A good thing comes to its inevitable end.
From its relatively humble beginnings, when 26 of the world’s top co-ed adventure-racing squads fought for honours, to the 2010 apotheosis with a maxed-out field of 50 teams, not to mention many more too late to register, the Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge forged a place of privilege and eminence among the world’s adventure racing champions and fledgling contenders. Combining the undeniable rigours of fierce competition with personal challenge and discovery, in a destination of millennial traditions and rich cultural heritage, teams from all over the world flocked to compete in this memorable event. But however marvellous the context and location, and Abu Dhabi is surely one of the most intriguing and enriching, the race could not have existed without you – and it is to you that we, the organisers, extend our thanks. Some of you have been with us since the beginning and others arrived late to the party but all of you have contributed to making these last four years a fabulous adventure for us too. Everyone involved has accumulated a wealth of unforgettable moments and striking personalities, crowned with an immense sense of humility and awe in the face of your tenacity and achievements.
Of course, all those who took part in the 2010 Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge will still receive the special DVD covering the race around the beginning of April and we hope you enjoy reliving the entire episode. We wish you all the best of luck with your future projects & races and hope to see you again somewhere along the trail.
